Cautiously I stepped inside the cage
and watched with wonder toward the stage
as before my eyes they passed in parade
I had now begun my own charade

I stared at each as they walked by
seemingly with nothing left to hide
the openly showed their scars of pain
and shared with me how they went insane

I listened intently to the tales they told
as my own insecurity started to unfold
I realized now what my eyes could see
was just another reflection of me

I tried to run, but feet stayed still
this house of horror had lost it's thrill
I cried in silence and shed dry tears
as I began to face my own dark fears

The years of anger locked inside
the nights of countless tears I'd cried
came back in an instant to visit me
as the freak show became reality

I joined them now upon the stage
and locked my pride back in it's cage
I listened closely as the old man said
"Step inside, see the living dead"
