You were here just that long

That's when you left me

Alone in the cold February rain

The oranges are blooming in the warmth of the sun

Because they don't know they aren't supposed to

Thoughts race like a roller coaster in my mind

And nausea settles in like an old friend

Haunting memories of oxygen machines and hospital beds

Invade the silence I try to keep in my head

But the blanket of blue velvet sure looked pretty

Until it covered your face and took you away

That old station wagon reminded me of the days we picnicked

Out in the woods on that lake with the name too long to pronounce

The clown with the frog in his pants made me laugh

And that old country and western show you liked so much

But that was so long ago and 19 days have passed

Since I thought about joining you there

The free flow of thoughts, clog this cluttered mind

And I just want to lie down and come home

I'm never alone now, because ghosts live in this house

And sometimes they talk louder than silence

But mostly they sit and stare at the walls

And remind me that it's been 19 days and you're still gone
