Wednesday, April 15, 2009Books and EOddly enough unlike Tamara I go in waves when I read and lately (last year or so) I have been in the no wave. But within the last two months that has seemingly changed. I think I got a bit discouraged with what I was reading. I enjoy things that are light and fun to read. But felt most of it was crap. Perhaps it's just me. Well it seems I have gotten past that or have gotten lucky. Which ever I am pleased to say I am in the reading mode. I must give credit though to some outstanding books. First up I got lucky and won a book, even signed by Barbara Davies. Rebeccah and the Highwayman. Darn fun! Highly suggest it. And I think it brought me out of my stupor in hopes of other good books and luckily I found a few. I do want to mention, this one is easily worth your money and time. KG MacGregor has a new one (not sure how new it is now) that I also really enjoyed. Worth Every Step. Another worthy tale. Then came a surprise for me. I once, many years ago, got screwed by a publisher that is no longer in business and from that came some seriously bad feelings towards the publisher that arose from the ashes of the dead company. I had always believed that I would never spend a dime with the new publishing company. Here in lies a reason one should not to actually use the word "never". I hate eating my words, but I did. One of the owners of that publishing company actually contacted me and offered me books. Wow, to say I was surprised would be understatement. More than that was the fact I actually bought one and they threw in a second one as good will for me to test out the waters once again. Now I must admit I was looking for anything to be unhappy with and I can gladly say I was proven wrong. The books were quality throughout. First up was the book titled Accidental Rebels by Kelly Sinclair. It should be said this one took me a bit to get into, but once I did a very good tale in deed. Then came the one I purposely bought to test out this new publisher. Mavis Applewater's Tempus Fugit would be a challenge. I am a fan of Mavis (how can you not be), however I find from past experience her books are in serious need of editing and I happily can say this one got it done right! Very enjoyable indeed, so thank you Blue Feather books and Emily Reed and all you writers. I am a believer once again and I will be back, in fact next up is the new Joan Opyr book. Enough of my rambling, go read!
