Tuesday, October 02, 2007EditorsThe term means a lot of different things to folks. I have a pet peeve when writers treat editors as something less. In reality they are a wonderful source for a writer. They hold so many answers and can truly help a story out of a pit. Why do some writers feel they are so beyond approach? I got a digest a few days ago that had a writer actually telling people they only want positive feedback. What the hell good is that? Are you so arrogant and self-absorbed that critical thought about your writing or a mention of editing instantly brings my comments less worth? This writer went on to say all critical review and editing is the job of the editor and not something they are to be bothered with. What crap. These are your words and to say it is "someone else's job" is a cop out. The editor is there to help you look good and to make you a better writer. Perhaps if your IQ is in the double digits you may even be able to learn something from a talented editor. For this writer I doubt it. Once again it seems that once one is to be published they feel they are that important. Sad actually since so much shit is being published some truly great writers that are published get tarnished amongst all this crap. Worse yet people continue to support lesbian fiction just because, but in the end wouldn't it be better to support a truly decent book, regardless of lesbian characters? It seems in this online lesbian world I am a definite minority. Well more power to those who don't fall into the traps! I currently am reading Mermaid by Michelene Esposito, so far excellent and worthy of my money and time. Stepping off my soapbox for now.
