Call for Submissions: Blood Sacraments

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Blood Sacraments
Editor: Todd Gregory
Publisher: Bold Strokes Books
Publication Date: October 2010

Length: 2500-10,000 words
Payment: $50, on publication
Deadline: October 1, 2009

LOOKING FOR: Gay erotic tales of the vampire, by new or established writers. Think sensuality and eroticism, rather than hard-core porn. Don't be afraid to step outside of the box and create a new mythos for your story. Strong writing, plot, and character development is more important than the erotic content; we are looking for stories to engage the mind as well as the nether bits. Reprints are okay, but original stories will be given priority.

GUIDELINES: Stories must all be double-spaced in either Times, Times New Roman, or Courier 12 point fonts. Each page must be consecutively numbered in the lower right hand corner. Header line must appear on each page with the name of the story, the author's name, and an email address. First page of story must also have all contact information for author: name, address, email address, and phone number.

Submissions must be mailed to: Todd Gregory, c/o Greg Herren, 5500 Prytania Street #215, New Orleans, LA 70115. Questions can be emailed to gregwrites@gmail.com. Electronic submissions will not be accepted, will be deleted unread, and will not be responded to. All submissions will be recycled unless return envelope with adequate postage is provided. Any failure to follow stated guidelines will result in
automatic rejection.

Books and E

Oddly enough unlike Tamara I go in waves when I read and lately (last year or so) I have been in the no wave. But within the last two months that has seemingly changed. I think I got a bit discouraged with what I was reading. I enjoy things that are light and fun to read. But felt most of it was crap. Perhaps it's just me.

Well it seems I have gotten past that or have gotten lucky. Which ever I am pleased to say I am in the reading mode.

I must give credit though to some outstanding books. First up I got lucky and won a book, even signed by Barbara Davies. Rebeccah and the Highwayman. Darn fun! Highly suggest it. And I think it brought me out of my stupor in hopes of other good books and luckily I found a few. I do want to mention, this one is easily worth your money and time.

KG MacGregor has a new one (not sure how new it is now) that I also really enjoyed. Worth Every Step. Another worthy tale.

Then came a surprise for me. I once, many years ago, got screwed by a publisher that is no longer in business and from that came some seriously bad feelings towards the publisher that arose from the ashes of the dead company. I had always believed that I would never spend a dime with the new publishing company.

Here in lies a reason one should not to actually use the word "never". I hate eating my words, but I did. One of the owners of that publishing company actually contacted me and offered me books. Wow, to say I was surprised would be understatement. More than that was the fact I actually bought one and they threw in a second one as good will for me to test out the waters once again.

Now I must admit I was looking for anything to be unhappy with and I can gladly say I was proven wrong. The books were quality throughout. First up was the book titled Accidental Rebels by Kelly Sinclair. It should be said this one took me a bit to get into, but once I did a very good tale in deed. Then came the one I purposely bought to test out this new publisher. Mavis Applewater's Tempus Fugit would be a challenge. I am a fan of Mavis (how can you not be), however I find from past experience her books are in serious need of editing and I happily can say this one got it done right! Very enjoyable indeed, so thank you Blue Feather books and Emily Reed and all you writers. I am a believer once again and I will be back, in fact next up is the new Joan Opyr book.

Enough of my rambling, go read!

Call for Submissions: Skulls and Crossbones

Hi, all--

I'm at it again, this time with a new colleague-in-crime, R. G. Emanuelle. We're looking for a few good women pirates for an anthology to be published with Mindancer Books (Bedazzled Ink Publishing). Here's the scoop, and hope y'all consider playing with us:

Call for Submissions: Skulls and Crossbones

A collection of short stories that features women pirates in any setting, any time period.

Editors: Andi Marquette and R. G. Emanuelle.

Publisher: Mindancer Press (Bedazzled Ink), print and ebook editions

Stipulations:
No longer than 7000 words; no shorter than 4000 words Will consider original and previously published stories. $35 per story, paid after contract is signed. Story rights revert back to authors 18 months after date of publication. Each contributor will receive one print copy as well as one ebook copy of the anthology.

GLBTQ/heterosexual characters are welcome BUT EACH STORY MUST FEATURE A WOMAN PIRATE, either as the main character or the focus of the story (e.g. another sailor on the ship who hates the woman pirate and through his/her eyes, we observe the woman pirate). Again, the main character or the focus of the story MUST BE A WOMAN PIRATE. We will consider main characters that identify as transgendered (male to female), but that identity must figure prominently in the story as a driving force and/or something that speaks to the character's experience as a woman pirate.

Extra caveat: The focus of the story cannot be a romantic hook-up/sex/erotica. Sex, eroticism, and romance may be part of the story (as long as they fit within the story's overall plot), but they cannot be the reason for the story or the driving force of the story. We want stories that feature adventure, intrigue, antiheroines/heroines, battles (epic, personal, or small-scale), something to be accomplished/overcome, vengeance, trickery, thievery, and/or assorted banditry and outlaw behavior.

Absolutely NO stories that feature acts of pedophilia, incest, bestiality, or rape.

Deadline for submissions is September 1, 2009

Final selections will be made by October 1, 2009, with publication tentatively slated for January 2010

To submit your story, send as an email attachment in RTF format, double-spaced to pirateanthology@gmail.com. Please include your name, pen name (if applicable), mailing address, email address, story title, and word count on the first page of your submission.

For more information, go to mindancerpress.wordpress.com/books/skulls-and-crossbones/. If you have questions, drop us a line at pirateanthology@gmail.com.

Adijan, a poor messenger girl in an Arabian Nights fantasy world, wishes she could build a world-spanning business empire. Shalimar, her wife, wishes Adijan would spend more time at home. Their landlord wishes Adijan would pay the rent. Adijan's brother-in-law wishes she would get trampled by a herd of camels so that he could marry his sister Shalimar to someone affluent and influential. And of all the wishes in the world, Adijan wishes the genie she's saddled with would grant her wishes instead of treating her with disdain.

Be careful what you wish for in a world of genies, sorcerers, and flying carpets.
